“Yes.” Casper says with a smile. “I was dwelling on Pangea and making the most of it, when the Big Man appears suddenly on his long climb up from Hell, set on his plan to tempt man away from God. I can see it now.” Casper tells us, his eye taking on a distant look.

The game is the Casino and vice versa; playing becomes being played by the game.

Casper grins right back, and his eyes laugh crazy little quiet laugh. “Oh, yes, I know. Why night, when, if this was before the greater part of Creation, there is as of yet no sun? Why horns, when there is no air, why rank and file and command, when all is peaceful, and there can be no reason for war, because there is no enemy?”

...those who view the world as a university for the soul, who surrender to greater powers that fashion the universe, infinity is the no-place, the no material form, the no dimension; true freedom.

I honestly hate Donny, even though I’ve never met him. Sometimes he appears in my dreams, not as a person but as a bloodshot streak of emotion. “My mother says hi, by the way.”

Applying willing suspension of disbelief to religious values isn’t about form and art, but our own ability to apply our own lives and understanding of the world to a common text. As a writer, I find more truth and human understanding in literature. In the end, blind faith might not be blind at all; it might be the willing suspension of disbelief that aligns and measures the depth of our spiritual understanding.

But rats and humans seem to have a special kinship, more than monkeys even. At the metal festival, watching leather clad, metal heads, slurp beer and get excited and scream and laugh and yell and pass out. From a hill, they bounced and bobbed en masse, some were more gregarious than others, some more aggressive, some preferred alcohol, some preferred other things, I was introduced to whippits - nitrous oxide brain rockets. Don't get me started about the toilets.
